Welcome General Volunteers!

About Us:

Lestonnac is an entirely free clinic with a mission to provide free health services to the uninsured of Southern California. Lestonnac was founded in 1979 by Sister Marie Therese Solomon, who recognized the overwhelming need for medical services in the underserved community. Since 1979 Lestonnac has grown from that single location to 13 different locations in the Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties. Lestonnac is able to operate thanks to grants, donations, and generous volunteers like you!

Our Patients:

What Does Volunteering Look Like?

We have a couple different areas that volunteers are needed at the clinic:

Dental (CLOSED)

Medical Volunteers work alongside the Medical Assistants (MAs). Volunteers are able to take part in front and back office duties to make sure the patient receives the best care.

Dental Volunteers work alongside Dental Assistants (DAs). Volunteers here are able to learn chair side skills as they assist the dentist to provide care.

Translators are imperative in bridging the communication gap between patient and doctor. Volunteers ensure that both doctor and patient needs are being properly communicated. Translators need to be proficient in both Spanish and English.

Administrative volunteers work alongside the administrative team in areas such as marketing, photography/videography, journalism, community outreach, and overall office management.

Lestonnac is open 6 days a week and operates from 9am-5pm. Morning shifts are 9am-12pm and afternoon shifts are usually 1pm-5pm. Medical volunteers are required to spend some time in the front office in order to get comfortable with the overall flow at the clinic. Once back office trained volunteers are trained they are able to participate in the patient care aspect of the clinic.

There will be a 12 hour volunteer requirement each month, which is about 3-4 shifts. We are looking for volunteers who are able to commit to a minimum of 6 months. These requirements are in place to ensure that the volunteers we invest time into will be able to invest back into both the clinic and our patients. We have many volunteers, so at this time we only allow volunteers to work one shift a week. If you are needing to complete a large amount of hours in a short period of time, Lestonnac will not be able to accommodate you. If Saturdays are the only days you can volunteer, it may not be possible due to the fact that those shifts are very competitive and are filled immediately every week.

All volunteers are trained and spend time volunteering at the Orange clinic and then may be allowed to volunteer at the satellite locations

High School Students: Due to the hands on nature we only accept volunteers that are atleast 18 years old.

Related Program Costs:

While our program does not have application costs or tuition, some costs related to the program include recieving a yearly TB skin test or x-ray and the purchase of scrubs. Currently, these costs are the sole responsibility of the volunteer.
