“This is God’s clinic.” - Sister Marie Therese

Through prayerful moments and a determination to help those in need, Sister Marie Therese founded Lestonnac Free Clinic in January 1979. Though she had no medical training of her own, Sister saw a need to help those without adequate access to healthcare. The Clinic started merely as a place to treat children for colds and scrapes, but it quickly grew into something much greater. Through her warm spirit and persuasive nature, Sister gathered volunteers to help within the clinic. Through partnerships with hospitals, donors, and foundations, Lestonnac went from treating small injuries to providing comprehensive primary, specialty, and dental care.

Sister’s Legacy

With Sister Marie Therese’s mission in mind, executive directors Rosalie Corless and Edward Gerber continued her dream by caring for Southern California’s uninsured.

Rosalie 2000-2008 : With the passing of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Lestonnac transitioned from offering pediatric services to entirely providing adult care. Rosalie worked to ensure parents were provided with information and assistance during this transition.

Ed 2008-present : Under the current leadership of Ed, Lestonnac has broadened its reach of care by opening 26 (14 active) satellite clinics all across Southern California. As Lestonnac continues to grow, the hope is that healthcare will be accessible to those who cannot afford insurance.
